What is proofreading?

By the time you’ve typed the last period and saved for the final time, you’ve probably looked over your manuscript at least a hundred times–or it feels like you did, anyway. In any professional work, you’ll want as few mistakes as possible, and most of the time, that will take outside eyes, particularly in a lengthy novel.

While proofreading, I go over every word in the novel and check and double-check for grammatical and spelling mistakes. Any ambiguous edits (a.k.a., should I add a hyphen? Should I not? Style guides don’t agree on this one!), I will mark, but leave the final edit up to your own discretion.
